Have you ever found yourself wanting a new Ryobi tool, only to realize how expensive it is, and left the store or closed your browser tab? Cordless power tools (and battery packs) are expensive, and the secret to finding lower prices and better Ryobi deals is easier than you think.
The best way to save money on Ryobi tools, aside from waiting for the annual Ryobi Days (typically May-June) sales event, is to buy tools online or in-store on Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know.
Get a brand new tool at refurbished prices
A little-known secret around the internet, like on Reddit, is that The Home Depot and Ryobi always release the best prices, deals, or discounts on Tuesday. Yes, better promotions are often spotted during the middle of the week, and there are a few reasons behind it.
If you follow Ryobi tools anywhere on social media, as I do on Instagram, you might notice that every Tuesday the company fills up its stories with 4–5 deals. This only happens once a week, and it’s always on Tuesday. For example, this week and for one day only (Tuesday), Home Depot had the Ryobi 40V String Trimmer, a battery, charger, and 5 string spools for $114, a savings of $45. That same item without the extra string refills is usually $160.
If you’re getting ready to take care of the yard all Spring and summer long, you’ll want a String Trimmer, and saving $45 is a nice little discount.
Why Tuesday? Here are a few reasons:
- Major sales, like those just before holiday weekends, often go live on Tuesdays.
- Home Depot’s sale cycle typically starts on Tuesday.
- Tuesday is when the Direct Tools Outlet store (run by Ryobi’s parent company) releases new deals.
For those unaware, Ryobi is owned by a massive conglomerate named Techtronic Industries, or TTI. That same company also owns Milwaukee, RIDGID, HART, ORECK, Dirt Devil, and other brands you’re probably familiar with.
That parent company, TTI, operates a website and a physical store called Direct Tools Outlet, which is a great place to save money on Ryobi tools. It’s an outlet store that bypasses Home Depot entirely, allowing for greater savings and discounted prices. There’s one about 50 miles from me, and I go whenever I can.
While Direct Tools Outlet sells several new tools, the store specializes in refurbished or used gear. I’ve had friends get cheap impact drivers for around $10, refurbished pressure washers, and discounted battery packs. Don’t be afraid of refurbished power tools, either, especially when you buy them directly from the manufacturer like this. Refurb tools go through rigorous testing to ensure they’re up to par before being resold.
Your mileage may vary by location, but it’s a great way to save some cash. If you don’t have a DTO near your home, the online website has decent deals too, especially on Tuesday.
And finally, another option is to head to your nearby Home Depot store on Tuesdays, which is often the day all the returns and open-box items from the weekend are put back on the shelves—at a lower price.
Check every Tuesday and wait for the right deal
A little patience can pay off
The obvious downside to waiting for tool deals every Tuesday is that you never know what will go on sale. This week, Ryobi had one-day deals on a String Trimmer, a 2-pack of batteries, an 18V ONE+ Leaf Blower, a 40V lawnmower, and a few others. I didn’t need anything from the list this week, but I’ll be sure to check again next Tuesday.
If you need a specific tool for an active DIY project, you can’t really save money using the Tuesday secret. Instead, I’d recommend heading to a nearby store and looking for an open-box, or checking the Direct Tools Outlet store.
But in the long run, as long as you’re paying attention and know that Ryobi tools almost always go on sale on Tuesday, you can keep an eye on the different deals and discounts. Then, when something you need comes along, pull the trigger and get a discount.
Basically, it takes some patience, but it’ll be worth it.
In the meantime, Spring is officially here, and that means you can expect a lot of random deals and discounts over the coming days and weeks. Then we have Easter Sunday, and in May, Home Depot will kick off its annual Ryobi Days sales event. That’s one of the best events of the year for discounted power tools.
