The Lexar ES5 Magnetic External 2TB SSD has dropped to $295 during Amazon Prime Day, saving shoppers 26% on a fast and durable portable drive.

Portable SSDs have become must-have accessories for power users, especially in an era when flagship smartphones can record movie-quality videos. The Lexar ES5 is one of the best because it combines fast storage speeds with a compact, durable design that feels tailor-made for modern workflows. It supports read and write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s over USB-C, enabling the drive to record 4K Apple ProRes at 120Hz without slowdown.

On the back of the SSD is a magnet that can attach to smartphones compatible with the MagSafe standard, such as modern iPhones. This creates a clean setup that avoids hard drives dangling awkwardly from the mobile device during recording. Don’t fret if you’re an Android owner, because Lexar includes a special magnetic metal ring that lets the ES5 attach to non-Apple devices. It even supports Samsung Pro Video recordings for seamless usage with high-end Galaxy models.

Review: Lexar ES5

Security is a major aspect of the Lexar ES5. For starters, it is 256-bit AES encrypted, preventing bad actors from accessing your files if the drive is ever stolen. Lexar’s device is rated IP65, meaning its internal components are fully protected against dust and can withstand splashes of water. What’s more, it is drop-resistant up to three meters. The outside of the drive is covered in a soft silicone exterior to protect it from scratches and improve grip.

How I rated this deal

As per ZDNET’s rating system, I grant this deal a 3/5. The Lexar ES5 SSD is a premium storage drive purpose-built for content creators, though anyone can enjoy it. If you’re looking to save more money, there’s also a 1TB option that’s on sale for $185. However, I recommend the 2TB model instead, as I believe it provides the better value.

Amazon Prime Day 2026 officially runs from Tuesday, June 23, through Friday, June 26. During this three-day period, you will find some of the best deals on smartphones anywhere online. Be sure to take advantage of these discounts before they’re gone for good.

SanDisk SSD

Best Buy/ZDNET

Whether you need a high-capacity SSD for large game downloads, raw and rendered videos or photos, a digital art portfolio, or just to back up your PC and documents, the SanDisk Desk Drive is an almost-perfect option with up to 8TB of space. And if you’ve been putting off buying a backup drive due to high costs, right now is the perfect time to pick up the SanDisk Desk Drive. Best Buy is offering an impressive 62% discount, bringing the price down to $740; still pricey, but much closer to pre-AI costs than I’ve seen in a long time.

The SanDisk Desk Drive packs 8TB of storage into a compact design, measuring just 3.9 x 1.58 inches and weighing just over half an ounce. This makes it ideal for tucking away on a smaller desk, in a drawer, or in a travel bag for mobile professionals. It uses USB-C connectivity for read and write speeds up to 1,000MB/s. This means you’ll get quick and simple file transfers when you need to free up space on your main storage drive.

You’ll also get plug-and-play compatibility with both Windows and macOS, making it one of the more flexible storage options on the market (sorry, Linux users).

It also includes automatic backup and recovery software to help keep your data safe from accidental deletion and corruption. And with a 3-year warranty, you’ll get peace of mind that your SanDisk Desk Drive is covered if it ever gets accidentally damaged in a fall or if you run into any defects.

How I rated this deal

High-capacity SSDs have seen skyrocketing prices in the last few years due to both the crypto and AI booms. But with this massive 61% discount, you can get your hands on an 8TB SanDisk Desk Drive for well under $1,000. While still a bit pricey, it’s much closer to pre-AI costs. That’s why I gave this deal a 5/5 Editor’s rating.
