Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2027 C-Class Electric, claiming this is the “sportiest” C-Class ever made.

The introductory C-Class C 400 4MATIC Electric will be quick, with a 482-horsepower dual-motor setup that delivers a 0-60 mph dash in 3.9 seconds. Mercedes-Benz also touts quick “amplitude-selective” damping and “very direct” steering that, when combined with a multi-link rear and four-link front suspension, promises a mix of nimble driving and comfort.

An as-yet-unpriced Agility & Comfort option adds AIRMATIC air suspension and 4.5-degree rear-axle steering.

The German brand also claims an estimated 473 miles of range based on WLTP testing (U.S. EPA data is likely to be more conservative), with an 800-volt architecture providing up to 201 miles of range in 10 minutes, and a charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in 22 minutes. You can drive from Berlin to Paris with just one recharge stop, Mercedes claims.

The added driving distance comes through selective use of the front motor, more reliance on regenerative braking, as well as a two-speed transmission that prioritizes efficiency on highways.

AI, Hyperscreen, and driver assistance

Expect E- and S-Class comforts

While there is conspicuous exterior technology, including micro-LED headlights that are more efficient and sharply defined, most of the major overhauls come to the interior.

The 2027 C-Class Electric has the option of a Hyperscreen (also found on cars like the 2027 EQS) that provides 39.1 continuous inches of display space for the driver, center stack, and passenger. There’s also an available “Superscreen” with three separate displays.

As with the new EQS, this more compact electric sedan is using new generations of MB.OS and MBUX that make AI a central feature. It blends OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o model with Google Gemini and Microsoft Bing to handle complex, conversational requests. Google provides optional, charging-aware navigation, and you can buy “digital extras” like apps and games.

This extends to driver aids. Features like Distance Assist are included, but you can also buy MB Drive Assist and Drive Assist Pro for more advanced help. A City Pro feature is coming later that promises “seamless” driving even in thick traffic.

You’ll have to wait for pricing

The C-Class C 400 4MATIC reaches U.S. dealerships sometime in the first half of 2027. Pricing and additional variants aren’t available as of this writing, although they historically come closer to launch.

Those details may greatly influence your purchase, however. Mercedes’ introduction comes just weeks after the premiere of the 2027 BMW i3, which offers a claimed 440-mile range through its own dynamic motor system. It also has an AI-driven cabin that includes passenger and heads-up display options. It too arrives in early 2027.

Shaking up expectations

BMW is more frequently associated with performance driving, while Mercedes tends to be linked with comfort. However, Mercedes is clear that it wants the C-Class Electric to be seen as matching gas cars in sheer thrill, not just range. If nothing else, the C-Class should also address a larger audience than the EQE and EQS, not to mention appeal to drivers who don’t want SUVs like the EQB.
