Apple’s latest AI upgrades are coming to every part of the ecosystem, including iPadOS 27, where Apple also focused on system optimizations and Liquid Glass changes.

WWDC has already promised Apple Intelligence announcements, but there are new features for each OS coming too. The iPad will get iOS 27 features in addition to what has been revealed in iPadOS 27.

The multitasking system has seen repeated changes in recent years, especially since Stage Manager didn’t quite solve the problems with the platform. The windowing system in iPadOS 26 was much better, and iPadOS 27 builds upon that further with system-wide optimizations.

Spotlight and search is being completely rethought with a better indexing backend.

Browsing the Files app should be much faster as well. Apple expects up to 5x faster file transfers when using the Files app.

Apple Intelligence upgrades

Apple Intelligence has been rebuilt with Google Gemini at its foundation. Privacy is at its core where Apple Intelligence is on-device or Private Cloud Compute, so data is never used for training or stored elsewhere.

The new models have better understanding of photos, generated content, on-screen awareness, and your personal life through data indexing. That new Spotlight index system helps with personal context when engaging with the new Apple Intelligence.

Shortcuts uses the new Apple Intelligence to parse a natural language query and turn it into a Shortcut and automation. Edits can be made with text input or manual editing.

Image Playground has been upgraded with realistic image generation that involve people in your Photos library. Generate an image for use in Invites, Contact Photos, wallpapers and more.

Photos gains new AI tools like improved object removal and image extension. Spatial Reframing utilizes a version of the Spatial Photos to edit how an image was framed in real time.

The Spatial Reframing tool utilizes both object removal and image extension along with spatial photo data to create the new photo. Apple says that the final image should represent the original realistically as if you were there to reframe it yourself.
