Spotify is rolling out a new initiative on its platform that will make it simpler to get concert tickets in the U.S. The streaming platform has introduced Reserved, a way for Spotify Premium subscribers in the U.S. to get concert tickets without having to queue up in a race against others to get their hands on a ticket.
Spotify’s Reserved is there to serve “an artist’s most dedicated fans.” Two tickets will be reserved for an eligible fan, and they’ll have the opportunity to book those tickets with plenty of time (and no anxiety of missing out) to decide which date, venue, and seats to pick. The company did mention that the tickets will be reserved for roughly a day, so it’ll still have to be a reasonably quick decision to make once you do get the invite to buy tickets.
How does Spotify Reserved identify ‘real’ fans
Engagement means eligibility
With the Reserved program beginning this summer, the burning question involves eligibility. When Spotify says that most dedicated and real fans will be eligible for this program, here’s how the platform will be trying to identify the die-hard fans:
Spotify says that it will identify “real” fans by having a look at streams, shares, and other Spotify “activity” as well as monitoring Premium users’ activity on the platform itself to prevent bots from receiving an invitation. From the sound of it, it’s clear that fans who have clocked in hours and hours listening to a particular artist are more likely to receive ticket invites from occasional listeners.
Now, an artist could be a recurring favorite artist in your Spotify Wrapped each year, but that wouldn’t necessarily guarantee an invitation if it’s a top artist with heavy tour ticket demands. As Spotify puts it, “There will be significantly more superfans than there are seats available on a tour, so not every fan will receive an offer.” Moreover, Spotify may think you’re a superfan, but if the tour is not coming to your area, it’s possible that you would not receive the chance to buy a ticket. So, if your location is off on Spotify, it’s time to turn it on to take advantage of Reserved.
How to book Spotify Reserved tickets
Time-bound but no race to win
Now, if you’re one of the fortunate ones with the chance to skip the queues, here’s how Reserved will function:
Spotify will reach out to eligible fans via email and an in-app notification. Fans will typically have a day’s window to purchase up to two reserved tickets. Spotify’s Reserved program will redirect you to the official ticketing partner’s platform. From there on, it’s straightforward. Simply select your preferred date, location, and seats. Spotify adds that there might be limitations on seating and the type of tickets available.
Although Spotify’s Reserved is only active in the U.S. currently, it will expand to other countries soon.
