The battle between Homelander and Butcher will reach its epic conclusion in The Boys season 5. It’s the final season of The Boys, which changed the course of superhero TV shows. Eric Kripke’s innovative satire proved that superhero shows can be more than costumes and capes.

With The Boys’ season premiere scheduled for April 8, 2026, many fans are either searching for new shows to watch until then or looking for programs with similar themes and structure. Not only is Prime Video home to The Boys, but it hosts several shows that will satisfy those urges for related content. At least one of these shows is a potential replacement for The Boys.

Invincible

A reimagining of the superhero genre

While The Boys satirizes superhero culture, Invincible reconstructs it. I know what some of you are probably thinking. You would rather not watch an animated show. This show is not made for kids, so if you’re worried that you aged out of the target audience, think again. Created by The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman, Invincible is all about the adventures of Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), a teenager who inherits special skills from his father, Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), who happens to be the most powerful superhero on the planet.

With his newfound powers, Mark takes on the superhero name, Invincible. At its core, it’s undoubtedly a coming-of-age story about a boy who lives in his father’s shadow trying to make a name for himself. Like The Boys, Invincible is incredibly violent and gory, which might not work for everyone. I appreciate how the series believes in the “no character is safe” mantra, which instantly raises the stakes of every decision.

Jack Ryan

Tom Clancy’s most famous character enters the spotlight

I would not say that the characters in The Boys share many similarities with Jack Ryan. If I had to pick one that has the most in common with the CIA analyst, it would be Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso). So, if you appreciate the intelligence and moral compass of Mother’s Milk, then you’ll like Jack Ryan, the political action thriller based on the novels by Tom Clancy.

Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) begins the series as a former Marine who transitioned to working behind a desk as a CIA analyst. Due to his inability to follow orders when pursuing a case, Jack becomes entangled in several high-profile cases involving terror attacks, foreign affairs, corruption in foreign countries, and drug cartels. The show is the closest thing to The Hunt for Red October, which I consider the best Jack Ryan adaptation. Catch up on the show now before the movie hits Prime Video in May.

Supernatural

Meet the Winchesters

Before playing in the world of Vought International, Kripke was best known for creating Supernatural, the long-running fantasy drama that ran for 15 seasons and over 300 episodes. The show stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as Sam and Dean Winchester, two brothers who travel the country in search of eliminating supernatural threats. The duo’s main mission involves finding their father and determining who killed their mother.

The clear comparison to Supernatural is The X-Files, which utilizes the monster-of-the-week format to plot its stories. However, you can easily swap out Sam and Dean for The Boys’ Hughie and Butcher, an odd-couple tandem who fight against evil forces. I’m looking forward to the Supernatural reunion, as Padalecki and Ackles will both appear in The Boys season 5.

Reacher

Justice is served with a fist

The Boys depicts what happens when ordinary humans become vigilantes fighting to expose corruption. Jack Reacher might have been a military police major, but he constantly follows his own version of justice over legal jurisdiction. Alan Ritchson plays the titular character in Reacher, a drifter who constantly finds himself in precarious situations where the “little guy” needs help against the bullies.

Whether it’s disrupting misconduct in a small town or infiltrating an arms trafficking empire, Reacher’s elite intelligence and combat skills are always on full display. Plus, good luck making a dent in Reacher’s hulking physique. Apologies to Tom Cruise, but Ritchson is the ideal version of Lee Child’s iconic character.

Gen V

The spin-off with its own ideas

Naturally, Gen V finds its way on the list because it serves as the most prominent spin-off of The Boys. Set between seasons 3 and 4, Gen V follows the gifted students at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting who are training to become Supes. For my Disney fans, think of it like a rated-R version of Sky High.

Gen V incorporates the same violence and gore as The Boys, but it’s less satire and more coming-of-age as the young students navigate the struggles of adolescence. While watching The Boys will help you familiarize yourself with the terminology and overall story, Gen V can be experienced on its own if that’s what you choose.
