Norris served in the United States Air Force and became a martial arts black belt in numerous styles, including karate, judo, taekwondo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and Tang Soo Do.
Most people came to know Norris as an actor who primarily worked in action movies and television. Norris appeared opposite Bruce Lee in 1972’s Return of the Dragon. He then went on to headline numerous action movies over the next 20 years, including The Octagon, Silent Rage, Forced Vengeance, and Missing in Action.
Many of Norris’ most iconic roles are streaming on free services. Norris’ breakout role in the 1980s came when he played Ranger Jim “J.J.” McQuade in 1985’s Lone Wolf McQuade, now streaming on Tubi and Pluto TV. In the movie, Norris plays a Texas Ranger tasked with finding a drug trafficker and arms dealer. In true Norris fashion, his character is always ready for a fight, as Lone Wolf McQuade shows off the martial arts prowess fans came to love and appreciate.
Lone Wolf McQuade inspired the most famous part of Norris’ career: Cordell Walker in Walker, Texas Ranger. Norris’ Walker was a member of the Texas Ranger division who believed in truth and justice. Walker was a former veteran who exhibited elite martial arts and tracking skills. The show ran for nine seasons from 1993 to 2001 and spawned a 2005 television movie.
Fans of Walker, Texas Ranger, can stream select seasons of the show on Pluto TV and The Roku Channel.

Norris’ unstoppable presence became the subject of iconic jokes, like “Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird,” “Chuck Norris can cut a knife with butter,” and “Chuck Norris doesn’t wear a watch. He decides what time it is.” His cameo in Dodgeball inspired countless memes and jokes.
Chuck Norris is survived by his wife, Gena O’Kelley; his five children—Mike, Eric, Dakota, Danilee, and Dina; and several grandchildren.
