A new leak backs up reports of the iPhone 18 Pro Max getting a substantial improvement in battery life, but claims the phone will be fractionally heavier and larger as a result.
Initial rumors claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro Max would see only slight improvement in battery life over the iPhone 17 Pro Max. But then more recently, there was a new claim that the iPhone 18 Pro Max battery would last almost 10% longer.
Now leaker Ice Universe has backed up this report by saying the iPhone 18 Pro Max will have a 5,500 mAh battery. That compares to the 5,088 mAh battery in the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The leaker also says, though, that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will weigh 240 grams, as compared to its predecessor’s 233g. It will also have a depth of 9mm instead of the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 8.75mm.
This is not the first report that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be thicker than the current model. However, this leak specifically says that the increased depth is in order to allow for a larger battery.
A previous claim from Fixed Focus Digital mentioned the battery, but appears to attribute the size increase to the iPhone 18 Pro Max having a larger camera plateau on the back. That leak said the difference would be a whole 2mm, however.
It’s not clear whether the claim is that solely the camera plateau will be bigger, or that the entire chassis will be. Also, note that Ice Universe has only proven to be sporadically accurate before, and Fixed Focus Digital has a fairly mixed track record.
As ever, this means we can never really know the dimensions of a forthcoming iPhone until Apple unveils it. Even then, the company is as unlikely to promote that the iPhone 18 Pro Max is thicker and heavier, as it is to quote battery capacity in mAh.
Apple does, though, always aim to improve battery life so that it can say the new model lasts some number of hours more. So it is likely that Apple will increase the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s battery life, though, and we’ll all just have to wait to see whether there is a noticeable increase in its weight and size.
