4 more new Ryobi tools I’m still looking forward to this year

Want to buy more tools this year? Ryobi has an excellent selection of power tools, and more are on the way later this summer or in early fall. While Ryobi has released over 70 new items as of late, including several capable tools this year, the company recently highlighted several more options worth waiting for.

In the last 6 months, Ryobi has slowly released dozens of new tools and accessories, like its 3-port lithium charger and a customizable DIY workbench, but they aren’t slowing down anytime soon. Part of what makes the company so successful is its constant stream of new products. Last week, Ryobi updated its new product website with several notable items you’ll love.

Ryobi 18V Quick Connect 700 PSI Power Cleaner

Like a pressure washer, but smaller

One of the items I’m most looking forward to from Ryobi is the new 18V ONE+ Quick-Connect Power Cleaner, which is essentially a small pressure washer of sorts. Imagine having 700 PSI of cleaning pressure in a small, lightweight, easy-to-use portable handheld tool. Ryobi is no stranger to cleaning products, but this is the highest-rated handheld model yet.

Powered by one 18V ONE+ battery, this small, quick-connect tool works with a garden hose, an included water hose, bottles, and more. That way, it can truly be cordless if you don’t have a hose nearby. Connect a water source, snap in a battery, and get to work. And yes, there’s a water-resistant battery enclosure.

Whether you’re washing the car, cleaning off the patio and BBQ, or sanitizing a stinky garbage can, this little tool can do it all. Like a pressure washer, it comes with multiple nozzles and an extender. Use the turbo nozzle for tough dirt, a 15-degree nozzle for more control, or a 40-degree nozzle with delicate applications. It’ll be $129 when it arrives at your nearby Home Depot soon.

Keep that yard looking good

When it comes to lawn care, many of us already own Ryobi’s edgers, trimmers, or even a 40V lawn mower. But if you want to have the best-looking grass in the neighborhood that looks like a golf course, it requires a little extra maintenance.

A vital tool for lawn care is a dethatcher to remove old, dead grass, and an aerator to help your lawn breathe, water deeper to the roots, and help with fertilization and pre-emergent applications. And while Ryobi already offers its powerful 18V dethatcher with a 14-inch spread for your yard, it only comes as a combo with two battery packs for over $400.

This week, the company finally announced that its 18V 14-inch Dethatcher and Aerator (P2704BTL) will be available as a bare tool, without battery packs, significantly reducing the cost. I have enough batteries, so I couldn’t justify the price, but now I’ll be getting this model as soon as it drops. In the meantime, get yourself an electric lawnmower. They’re great.

Ryobi’s 40V electric lawn mower is quiet, capable, and comes with two 40V 6Ah battery packs and a rapid charger. It’s all you need to tackle your yard.

Ryobi Microtech Electric Precision Screwdriver Kit

For electronics and small household repairs

Next up is the all-new Ryobi Microtech electronic precision screwdriver kit. This neat new kit got announced late last month and will be $50 when it arrives in the coming weeks. While this isn’t your average 18V or 40V tool, it’s still worth considering.

Ryobi’s new USB-C rechargeable electric screwdriver comes with 50+ bits and accessories, ensuring you can tackle any repair. The company specifically mentions everything from glasses and laptops to PC builds and household chores, like a light switch. The set includes precision bits, larger bits, adapters, extensions, a magnetic head, and a nice carry case, all in one package.

The precision screwdriver has a comfy anti-roll design, a built-in LED, and two speed modes, making any job or repair fast and easy.

Ryobi 40V Brushless 1000 PSI Power Cleaner

More cleaning power when you truly need it

As mentioned earlier, Ryobi has several pressure washers and older power cleaners similar to the 40V model above. However, these new models are more powerful than ever.

Those who need more cleaning power or already own several 40V battery packs will want to spring for the more capable Ryobi 40V Power Cleaner. This model offers 1000 PSI and 1.0 GPM in a small, portable package. Just like the 18V model, it comes with various nozzle attachments for specific jobs, a wand extension, multiple water source options, including a 20-ft. siphon hose. And yes, there’s a built-in battery protection box to keep things water-tight.

What makes the 40V Power Cleaner different is the higher 1000 PSI, a shoulder strap, and better battery life. Plus, there’s an ECO mode for longer runtimes when you have a bigger job. It’ll be $189 bare, or $259 with a 2.0Ah battery and charger.

New Ryobi tools that’ll be worth the wait

Keep in mind that all the products listed above are scheduled as “coming soon” and do not have exact release dates. We’re anticipating both power cleaners sometime in July, and potentially in July or early August for the other two, along with various other tools listed as coming soon.

Reality makes for some stellar storytelling. If you’re looking to stream movies that are based on true events, Netflix has an extensive collection of biographical-style dramas that go beyond your typical selection of documentaries.

From historical tragedies to stories of resilience and ambition, these films bring some notable real-life events to your screen. Here are five Netflix Original movies that feature strong performances, storytelling, and visuals that you need to add to your watch list for the week.

The Two Popes

The path ahead is forged by this pair

The Two Popes is an incredible film that is based on one of the most memorable recent transitions in modern Catholic Church history, led by strong performances from Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce.

Inspired by real conversations and events surrounding Pope Benedict XVI and the future Pope Francis, The Two Popes follows Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio as he travels to Rome and plans to resign from the Church. Instead, he finds himself pulled into a series of personal and philosophical conversations with Pope Benedict, who is struggling with his doubts about leadership and the future of Catholicism. The character focus of the movie keeps you hooked despite the mellow pace, with Hopkins’ and Pryce’s chemistry making for an impeccable watch.

The Two Popes received nominations at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and British Academy Film Awards.

Society of the Snow

Hope is within the group

One of Netflix’s most notable, foreign-language survival thrillers is Society of the Snow. Based on the real 1972 Andes plane crash, the Spanish movie follows a Uruguayan rugby team whose flight crashes deep in the snow-covered mountains, leaving the survivors stranded for weeks in brutal freezing conditions. As supplies start to run out and hope fades, the group is forced to make some unimaginable decisions just to survive.

The thriller was shot mainly in Sierra Nevada, Spain, and features some phenomenal filmmaking. Although survival is a core element of the movie, it also highlights the grit and humanity of the party amid a disastrous situation, alongside the grim reality. Society of the Snow received two Academy Award nominations for Best International Feature Film and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

The Good Nurse

The case of a prolific, unexpected killer

The Good Nurse was haunting to watch at night, but it’s a thriller that has stayed with me for years. The crime drama tells the true story of Charles Cullen, a nurse and serial killer who was responsible for the deaths of dozens of patients across multiple hospitals in the United States. The film is based on the 2013 true-crime book of the same name by Charles Graeber.

What’s fascinating about the movie is that, instead of giving us Cullen’s perspective, the story unfolds from the POV of Amy Loughren, a single mother and ICU nurse who was key in Cullen’s confession and eventual conviction. As his new co-worker, her suspicions build over the course of the movie after she starts noticing something strange about his patients. The Good Nurse also does a good job of touching on another vital aspect of the case, the hospital’s negligence.

Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne drive the movie with incredibly controlled performances. To know more about the real case, you can also check out the Netflix documentary Capturing the Killer Nurse.

Mudbound

Life after war is never easy

The (mandatory) war film addition to this list is Mudbound, a Netflix exclusive that stands out for its incredible character-focused storytelling. The story is set in rural Mississippi after World War II and follows two veterans, one Black and one white, whose lives become intertwined while working on the same farmland. The soldiers and their families deal with the PTSD of war in their own ways. Mudbound explores themes like racism, trauma, class divides, and poverty through its gripping plot.

Directed by Dee Rees, the film received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Song, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It became the first Netflix movie ever nominated for Best Cinematography — Rachel Morrison became the first woman nominated in the category. It also earned two Golden Globe nominations.

Nyad

An impossible feat is nothing for this resilient athlete

If you’re in the mood for a sports thriller and a true story, don’t skip NYAD. This biographical drama follows marathon swimmer Diana Nyad and her attempt to complete the seemingly impossible 110-mile swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage. The film takes place years after Nyad initially gave up on the challenge.

The athlete decides in her sixties that she wants a final shot at achieving the record-breaking swim and sets her mind on the incredible goal. Alongside her best friend and coach, Bonnie Stoll, Nyad begins preparing for the physically exhausting journey while facing dangerous weather, exhaustion, and many failed attempts. NYAD is led by Annette Bening and Jodie Foster, with both actors receiving nominations for Best Actress and Supporting Actress, respectively, at the 96th Academy Awards and the 81st Golden Globe Awards.
