June was a pretty solid month on Disney+ and Hulu, and boy, did it go out with a bang. Hulu served up its last course of The Bear, while Disney+ lit up the month with James Cameron’s $1.5 billion blockbuster Avatar: Fire and Ash. With June almost in the rear-view mirror, it’s time to clear up some space on your watch list for what Disney+ and Hulu have in store for U.S. subscribers in July.
As usual, the month kicks off with a serious drop of licensed movies on July 1. Highlights include Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending Interstellar, which lands on Hulu the same day the entire Twilight saga arrives, and the original Iron Man and Iron Man 2. Crowd-pleasers like Dirty Dancing, Bend It Like Beckham, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, both Mamma Mia! movies, and Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore are also arriving. This three-part docudrama, which lands on both Disney+ and Hulu on July 23, is brilliantly hosted by your favorite mischievous Asgardian, Tom Hiddleston, as he plays detective to examine one of the most famous and destructive volcanic eruptions in human history—and he does it with more than a few playful nods to his Loki character.
From National Geographic and the executive producers behind Loki, Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston mixes scripted period drama with investigative documentary; the series rewinds to the hours before and during Mount Vesuvius’ catastrophic eruption, following three real Pompeians—a teenage apprentice, a powerful businesswoman, and an enigmatic Praetorian Guard—as disaster closes in. With archaeologists, historians, geologists, and disaster experts guiding the reconstruction, Hiddleston traces the impossible choices each one faced, recasting Pompeii less as a catastrophe than as a study in human resilience, sacrifice, and survival.

Furious (July 27, Hulu)

File this chilling crime thriller on Hulu squarely under the “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” category. Creator and writer Elizabeth Meriwether (The Dropout, Dying for Sex) trades her usual dark comedy for dark dread in Furious, which premieres on Hulu with three episodes on July 27. Fans of Shameless’ excellent Emmy Rossum will love her in this as Alice Black, an FBI agent on the trail of an elusive female serial killer (Say Nothing’s Lola Petticrew). As the two women chase their own ideas of justice, their lives begin to overlap, and the boundary between right and wrong dissolves. Furious promises to be a slow-burn, cat-and-mouse drama.
Furious premieres on Hulu on July 27.
